This RV Friendly overnight stop at Oatlands (maximum stop 72-hours) is located next to the attractive Lake Dulverton, off the Bass Highway app. halfway between Hobart and Launceston Tasmania. Oatlands is a small historical village some 84 km north of the state capital city Hobart and 115 km south of Launceston. As at At the 2006 census, Oatlands had a population of under 600 permanent residents. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, and many of them were built by convict labour. This free RV friendly stop is located next to the beautiful Lake Dulverton, which features abundant birdlife. If travelling North from Launceston to Hobart, take the exit road signposted Oatlands. You will see an Esplanade Road that skirts Lake Dulverton. After app. 400 metres you will see a large grassed area on your left beside the lake, and an overflow area on the right at the rear of Callington Mill. This overnight stop Oatlands is suitable for fully self-contained vehicles, being caravans and motorhomes with a toilet, shower, water and cooking facilities. The area is flat and suitable for caravans, motorhomes, campervans and camper trailers. If arriving from the South, take the exit off Highway 1 (Midlands Hwy) signposted Oatlands and head through the main township until you see a road signposted to Lake Dulverton. Oatlands is a small historic town that is well known for the refurbished flour mill, Callington Mill which was originally built in 1837. Oatlands boasts the biggest collection of sandstone buildings in any village setting in Australia. The town’s authentic colonial character is characterised by original sandstone buildings along the town’s main street. This RV Friendly location if pet-friendly, but given the wildlife dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. It is free to stop here for up to 3-nights, however donations are welcome and encouraged to keep this facility as free cost.
